Alteraciones en el perfil lipídico en pacientes adultos infectados por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana en los primeros meses de tratamiento antirretroviral

Abstract

A prospective analysis in order to evaluate the effect of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV infection on lipid profile in a group of 41 patients, assessing the values of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides was performed before and after starting treatment. The results obtained in this study showed in the selected patient population, changes in the lipid profile in a similar way to those reported by other authors. This complication associated with ART leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease corroborating the need for periodic evaluation of the lipid profile in patients receiving this treatment.
