El cráneo y el cerebro. Damasio, Bergson y Deleuze sobre la relación entre ciencia y metafísica

Abstract

En este trabajo indagaremos la relación entre metafísica y ciencia que está supuesta en el uso que Damasio hace del paralelismo spinocista y su relevancia para pensar ciertos desarrollos de la neurobiología actual. Recorreremos distintos modos en que el paralelismo ha sido repensado, los que presuponen a su vez diversas concepciones acerca de la relación entre metafísica y ciencia. Presentaremos el planteo de Bergson, que intenta reemplazar el monismo de la sustancia con el monismo de la vida y el paralelismo mecanicista con un paralelismo organicista. Pero en este movimiento aunque se sustituya una legalidad por otra, se le sigue asignando al todo una misma y única legalidad. Frente a este problema Deleuze y Guattari diseñan un paralelismo en el que las distintas dimensiones de lo real expresan una misma realidad, que se comporta y describe de forma heterogénea.

In this paper I examine both the relationship between metaphysics and science presupposed by Damasio's use of Spinoza's parallelism and its relevance to some current neurobiological developments. In order to do this, I review different ways in which such parallelism has been understood, showing that each presupposes a different view of the relationship between metaphysics and science. First, I present the approach used by Bergson whose view attempts to replace substance monism with life monism and mechanistic parallelism with an organicist parallelism. But while a legality is replaced by another, the whole is conceived under one and the same law. It is to solve this problem that Deleuze and Guattari designed a parallelism in which the different dimensions of the real express the same reality; but now that reality behaves and is described in different ways.
