Abstract

De Cervantes a Borges, desde la época clásica a la modernidad, la lectura se ha enfrentado a la acción. Se imagina al lector como un personaje titubeante, abismado y más o menos burgués. Hay algo asombroso o al menos levemente extraño en un lector como Ernesto Guevara. Las muchísimas imágenes que lo muestran leyendo, las innumerables notas de lectura, las varias cartas en las que pide libros son rastros que cuestionan estos lugares comunes sobre los libros y la lectura. La narrativa textual y visual que escenifica al Che como lector está siempre marcada por la figura de ese otro gran lector que es Quijote. Y también por el modelo del viaje como instancia de autoformación y descubrimiento identitario. Se trata de cuestiones que interrogan los lazos que unen la biblioteca y el mundo; los libros y la vida, los ideales y la experiencia.

From Cervantes to Borges, from classical times to Modernity, reading has been faced with action. The reader is imagined as hesitant, reserved and more or less bourgeois. There is something amazing or at least slightly odd in a reader like Ernesto Guevara. The many pictures that show him reading, the countless reading notes taken by him, the several letters in which he asks for books question these clichés about books and reading. The textual and visual narrative that revolves around Che as a reader is always marked by the figure of another great reader, Quijote, as well as by the travel as an experience of self discovery. All these issues interrogate the ties between the library and the world, books and life, ideals and experience.
