Un proceso de reorganización territorial advertido desde las escuelas elementales: el valle de Toluca entre fines del siglo XVIII y principios del siglo XIX

Abstract

Se analiza el proceso de reconfiguración territorial sucedido entre fines del siglo XVIII y mediados del XIX en el valle de Toluca a la luz de lo ocurrido en escuelas elementales. Aspectos ligados a la administración de estas instituciones y la gestión de sus recursos son estudiados desde dos conjuntos que se contrastan: el paso del periodo virreinal y al independiente, por un lado, y lo acontecido en las distinguidas jurisdicciones a las que se adscribió la ciudad de Toluca frente a las restantes localidades del valle. Las fuentes documentales que han servido de respaldo al trabajo no sólo provienen de archivos centralizadores, sino también de una docena de archivos históricos municipales que resguardan un riquísimo patrimonio. Como resultado se muestran alteraciones y continuidades entre las que se destacan procesos de reconfiguración territorial.

This paper discusses the process of territorial reorganization which took place in the Toluca Valley between the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, based on the study of elementary schools. The study aims to shed light on the administration and the resource management of these institutions in two contrasting eras: on the one hand, what happened in the periods of viceroyalty and independence, and on the other hand, the events that occurred in the jurisdictions of which the city of Toluca was a part (first the marquis period and followed by the state period). his was contrast compared to other towns in the valley. The documentary sources which have served as background support to this study come from national archives, as well as from a dozen of municipal historical archives which keep a rich heritage of the period in question. As a corollary, we suggest variations and continuities, among them processes of territorial reorganization.
