"Se os manda y ordena": El lugar de la Instrucciones reales en los relatos de viajes del siglo XVI

Abstract

Dentro del vasto repertorio de textos surgidos durante el siglo XVI las instrucciones reales constituyen un tipo discursivo particular. Cada uno de sus apartados no sólo dirige la observación y ordena las acciones, sino que además establece los contenidos sobre los que debe dar cuenta quien escribe. La Instrucción se presenta como un instrumento con múltiples funciones porque es un mecanismo que permite sistematizar el ejercicio de la observación para elaborar una taxonomía de los objetos naturales. Además, responde a la necesidad de obtener una información más objetiva y confiable con datos útiles para el envío de futuras empresas imperiales. Este trabajo propone una lectura de un corpus de instrucciones reales surgidas en el marco de los viajes de descubrimiento y colonización del Estrecho de Magallanes (Siglo XVI).

This paper seeks to study a Spanish royal instructions of the 16th-Century written in order to support the territorial inspection and occupation of the Magellan Strait. Especially, it focuses on the discursive features of this documents which supported traveler’s observation on ground by defining contents and practices. The premise of the article is that royal instructions were an instrument oriented to systematize natural and geographical data which were crucial in order to define the following steps of the Spanish crown in that Austral territory.
