Una genealogía feminista para abordar la maternidad como institución y como experiencia: El legado de Adrienne Rich

Abstract

Este artículo se propone delinear la construcción de una genealogía feminista que permita abordar la maternidad en su doble significado: como experiencia singular y como institución social y política. Luego de una reflexión sobre las dificultades de la construcción de genealogías feministas, se presenta la vida y obra de la autora fundante de esta propuesta, la poeta y ensayista estadounidense Adrienne Rich. La genealogía se completa con los aportes de quienes retomaron la propuesta de Rich, feministas negras, lesbianas y no-madres, que han podido profundizar y situar los vínculos entre experiencia e institución y los entrecruzamientos entre la maternidad institucionalizada y otras instituciones como el racismo y la heterosexualidad obligatoria.

This article seeks to outline the construction of a feminist genealogy of motherhood that enables the distinction between its two meanings: as a personal experience and as a sociopolitical institution. Following a reflection on the obstacles for the construction of feminist genealogies, I introduce the life and works of U.S. poet and essayist Adrienne Rich, the founder of this line of theorizing. The genealogy is followed by the work of other feminist writers –Black, lesbian and non-mother- who have deepened and complicated the analysis of the relations between experiences and institution, incorporating the links to other institutions such as racism and compulsory heterosexuality.
