Ut distinguat et discernat inter illos et istos: el discernimiento identitario y el cuerpo de creyentes en el IV Concilio Laterano

Abstract

La historiografía ha planteado que la normativa del Cuarto Concilio Laterano implicó el paso de una atención centrada en los herejes a otra donde primaba una concepción genérica de herejía al definírsela por oposición al Credo, subsumiendo así a herejes específicos en un colectivo indiferenciado. Sin embargo, desde otra perspectiva el examen de los cánones revela una preocupación por identificar a los herejes a través de una batería de mecanismos tendientes a su detección y exposición. Paralelamente, el concilio manifiesta asimismo una voluntad de reforzar la identidad del conjunto de los buenos cristianos, de los miembros de la ecclesia, y de visibilizar socialmente las diferencias con los distintos exponentes de la infidelitas. En éste y otros registros, esta normativa conciliar se ve atravesada por cuestiones identitarias cuyos signos se despliegan en una semántica multiforme.

The historiography has put forward that the Fourth Lateran Council’s regulations implied the passage from an attention focused on heretics to another giving priority to a generic conception of heresy defined by opposition to the Creed. This global point of view led to subsume the specific heretics in an undifferentiated group. Nevertheless, from another perspective, the examination of the council’s constitutions reveals a worry for identifying heretics through a set of mechanisms tending to their detection and exhibition. In parallel, the council also shows a will to reinforce the identity of the set of the good Christians, the members of the ecclesia, and to visualise the differences with the diverse examples of the infidelitas. These conciliar regulations are crossed by identity issues whose signs display a multiform semantics.
