Los grupos étnicos y sus territorios en las fronteras del río Salado de Buenos Aires (siglo XVIII)

Abstract

Describimos las interrelaciones de los funcionarios hispanocriollos con caciques y grupos étnicos que circulaban y se asentaban en las cercanías de los fuertes localizados desde mediados del siglo XVIII en las inmediaciones del río Salado para conformar la frontera sur. El corpus documental conservado bajo el rótulo "Comandancia de Fronteras" brinda datos sobre las localizaciones habituales de los caciques y los parajes que controlaban, sus circuitos de abastecimiento y transacciones comerciales, las negociaciones que encaraban con diversos agentes del estado, las afinidades y los conflictos con otros caciques/grupos. El análisis de estas cuestiones nos permite avanzar en la discusión sobre las territorialidades y la etnicidad de los grupos indígenas de la Pampa.

This paper analyses the interrelations between hispano-criollo government officials, native chiefs and ethnic groups that circulated and settled near the forts located around the Salado River, shaping the southern frontier (18th Century). The documentary sources labeled "Comandancia de Fronteras" offer data regarding the places where the native Chiefs usually settled, the areas they controlled, their trading and storage networks, their negotiations with different State agents, and finally the affinities and/or conflicts with other Chiefs or groups. The analysis of these issues will advance the discussion concerning territoriality and ethnicity of the indigenous groups from the Pampas.
