El mundo clerical riojano en la Vicaria Foránea de La Rioja, entre finales del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende contribuir al conocimiento del clero de la región del Tucumán a partir del estudio de los eclesiásticos de La Rioja. Dos las cuestiones que nos interesan especialmente: el perfil del clero riojano y su forma de inserción e interacción social. Ambas cuestiones revelan no sólo cómo era ese clero, sino también la sociedad en la que éste interactuaba. Creemos que el hecho de que la mayoría de los sacerdotes riojanos que tuvo actuación pastoral en la Vicaria foránea haya pertenecido a la restringida elite local, así como las características propias y particulares de dicha sociedad limitaron las posibilidades de ampliación de su número y sobre su calidad. Al mismo tiempo retrasaron su "profesionalización" y la normalización de la propia organización interna de la Vicaria.

This paper aims to contribute to the knowledge of the clergy in the region of Tucumán from the study of the Church of La Rioja. There are two issues that interest us especially: the Rioja clergy´s profile and their type of social participation and interaction. Both issues reveal not only what the clergy was like, but also the society in which it interacted. We believe that the fact that most of the priests who had a pastoral participation in the foreign Vicarship and at the same time belonged to the restricted local elite, as well as the specific and particular characteristics of that society, limited the possibilities of expanding their number and quality . At the same time they delayed their "professionalism" and standardization of the internal organization of the Vicar.
