Antonio José Ponte: el espacio como texto

Abstract

Este artículo analiza el cuento de Antonio José Ponte "Un arte de hacer ruinas", desde el punto de vista de su construcción narrativa. A partir del análisis del esquema general del libro, dentro del cual este cuento ocupa un sitio central, el artículo investiga qué significados recubre la propia noción de "centro" en el proyecto literario de Ponte. Puesto que la estructuración del espacio –en especial del urbano: el espacio político por excelencia– es materia de continua reflexión en su obra, aquí propongo una lectura de la "ingeniería" alegórica de este cuento, poniéndolo a su vez en relación con otros textos críticos de Ponte en los que cuestiona la metafísica del nacionalismo cubano y la ideología centralizadora del Estado.

This essay examines Antonio José Ponte’s tale "Un arte de hacer ruinas" (An Art of making ruins) from the perspective of its narrative strategies. Considering the general structure of the book, in which this tale holds a central place, the essay inquires into the meanings of the very notion of "center" in Ponte’s literary project. Since the structuration of space, in particular, urban space, which is the first political space, is a matter of permanent reflection in his work, here I offer a reading of the allegorical "engineering" of the tale, establishing relations with other critical texts by Ponte which defies the metaphysics of Cuban nationalism and the centralizing ideology of the Estate.
