El concepto de “epifanía” en la lectura deleuzeana de Joyce: Notas sobre la ontología de la obra de arte experimental

Abstract

El presente trabajo se propone explorar la noción de “epifanía” tal como es descrita por Gilles Deleuze en Diferencia y repetición en referencia a la obra del escritor irlandés James Joyce. Intentaremos mostrar que en la lectura deleuzeana de Joyce puede encontrarse una concepción ontológica de la obra de arte moderna o experimental que la hace diferir cualitativamente de otros entes e, inclusive, de otro tipo de obras de arte. Constituye la hipótesis de este trabajo que la utilización del concepto de epifanía referido al arte implicaría comprender el modo de aparecer propio de la obra experimental como presentación inmediata del ser o mostrarse en la superficie de lo “divino” –– en terminología deleuzeana, de lo virtual como ámbito ontológico (des)fundamental. Compararemos para ello esta noción de epifanía a la noción de fenómeno tal como es desarrollada por Heidegger en Ser y tiempo.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the notion of “epiphany” such as is it described by Deleuze in Difference and Repetition in reference to the work of Irish writer James Joyce. We will try to show that in the Deleuzean reading of Joyce, an ontological conception of the modern or experimental work of art can be found, in a manner that makes it differ from other beings, and even from other kinds of works of art. The hypothesis of the present writing is that the use of the concept of epiphany in regard to art implies understanding the way of appearing proper to the modern work of art as an immediate presentation of being or a superficial display of the “divine”, i.e., in Deleuzean terms, the virtual as the (dis)fundamental ontological field. We will compare, for this purpose, this notion of epiphany to the concept of phenomenon such as it is developed by Heidegger in Being and Time.
