Abstract

A partir del relato de una experiencia de dirección de tesis de grado, se describen y analizan aspectos sobresalientes del proceso de investigación en Trabajo Social. La reflexión se ordena en torno de cuatro premisas en las que se discute el desafío de transformar lo cotidiano en novedad, se revisa la relación entre la investigación y el sentido común en la definición del problema, se afirma la necesidad de adecuar las categorías de análisis a la realidad, así como la necesidad de ajustar las técnicas e instrumentos según criterios de sensibilidad y lenguaje local. Desde la recuperación de dicha labor, se concluye con algunas enunciaciones que procuran responder al problema de articulación de la teoría y la práctica. Una respuesta bastante difundida al conflicto entre investigaciónintervención se basó en la distinción entre un objeto de intervención y un objeto de investigación en la medida que uno y otro respondían a lógicas y objetivos diferentes. No obstante, desde la experiencia de trabajo exponemos algunas pistas para dar por probado que los problemas derivados de las relaciones sociales son los mismos para ese profesional que interviene diariamente como para aquel trabajador social que asume un rol de investigador. En ambas situaciones se reconocen aspectos vinculados con la participación y el poder, con la tensión entre el compromiso y el distanciamiento, y con la administración de una finalidad práctica -conocer para intervenir- la que define en última instancia el proceso de producción de conocimiento en Trabajo Social

This article describes and analyzes salient aspects of the research process in Social Work from the experience of directing a graduate dissertation. The reflection is organized around four premises in which I discuss the challenge of transforming ‘everyday life’ in novelty; I review the relationship between research and common sense in the definition of problems, and show the need to adapt the categories of analysis to the reality as well as to adjust the techniques and instruments according to criteria of sensitivity and local language. I conclude with some enunciations that seek to answer the question about the integration of research to the practice of Social Work. A quite widespread response to the conflict between research and intervention was based on the distinction between the object of intervention and the object of investigation to the extent that one and another responded to logical and different objectives. However, from this experience, I expose some evidences showing that the problems arising from social relationships are the same for the professional who is daily involved in his duty and the social worker who assumes the role of researcher. Both situations involve aspects associated with participation and power, with the tension between commitment and estrangement, and with the administration of a practical purpose –knowledge aimed at intervention - which ultimately defines the process of production of knowledge in Social Work.
