¿Dónde murió Domingo Zípoli SJ (1688–1726)?: Un detalle de la vida del músico jesuita

Abstract

Este breve artículo puntualiza sobre apenas un detalle de la vida del reconocido músico Domingo Zípoli poniendo en valor la cuestión del sitio de su muerte, asunto cuyos principales biógrafos contaron con escasa información que motivó una especulación que se legitimó en el tiempo. La relación de Zípoli con el espacio musical trasciende el lugar exacto de su muerte, pero es pertinente la contribución que nos proponemos a su prosopografía. Se han tomado como referencias las obras escritas para dilucidar el estado de la cuestión y fuentes contrastadas que dan como marco la hipótesis de los últimos días del músico en Córdoba. Para ello se ha tomado del ARSI un “Catálogo suplementario” de las defunciones ocurridas entre 1723 y 1726 y el completo catálogo del expulso Diego González. De tal manera que se plantea aclarar el tema subsanando información errónea que se ha repetido sistemáticamente, aportando a la continua reescritura de la historia y narrativa de las misiones jesuíticas de la antigua provincia del Paraguay.

This brief article focuses on just one detail of the life of the renowned musician Domingo Zípoli, highlighting the question of the place of his death, about which his main biographers had little information, leading to speculation that was legitimised over time. While Zípoli’s relationship with the musical sphere transcends the exact place of his death, an aim of the present article is to show that this addition to his prosopography is pertinent. By enlisting current works on the state of the question and comparing relevant sources, together they provide a framework for the hypothesis of the musician’s last days as having been spent in Cordoba. For this purpose, a “Supplementary Catalogue” of the deaths which occurred between 1723 and 1726, and the complete catalogue of the expelled Jesuit, Diego González, have been utilised from the ARSI and presented here. The aim is to clarify the subject by correcting erroneous information that has been systematically repeated, thus contributing to ongoing research into the history and accounts of the Jesuit missions in the former province of Paraguay.
