Entre gráficos y mapas, la estrategia para representar la extensión territorial: genealogía de la grilla y sus nomenclaturas (Instituto Geográfico Militar y la Dirección de Geodesia bonaerense)

Abstract

El primer plan cartográfico argentino que propuso el Instituto Geográfico Militar (IGM) en 1912 se proponía levantar el territorio nacional a partir de métodos de mensura geodésicos. A pesar de que era habitual en la época el IGM no comunicó su trabajo a partir de un mapa índex que permitiera identificar la cantidad de hojas topográficas en que se dividía el territorio y que permitiera identificar los avances de dicho plan. ¿Qué estrategias visuales puso en marcha el Instituto para comunicar su trabajo? Esta investigación pretende identificar los registros visuales que el IGM puso en marcha para demostrar cómo iba avanzando la cartografía topográfica de la Argentina. Para ello realizamos una genealogía de las grillas y de las nomenclaturas usadas por la institución en los proyectos topográficos nacionales y cómo se exportaron a la Dirección de Geodesia bonaerense

The first cartographic plan proposed by the Geographic Military Institute (IGM) in 1912 aimed to map the national territory using geodetic surveying methods. Although it was common at the time, the IGM did not communicate its work through an index map that would allow for the identification of the number of topographic sheets into which the territory was divided and track the progress of the plan. What visual strategies did the Institute implement to communicate its work? This research aims to identify the visual records that the IGM employed to demonstrate the progress of topographic mapping in Argentina. To this end, we conducted a genealogy of the grids and nomenclatures used by the institution in national topographic projects and how they were exported to the Directorate of Geodesy of Buenos Aires.
