'Myrddin', o la hibridación como descomposición del mundo artúrico

Abstract

En el marco de los estudios neomedievales, nos proponemos realizar un análisis del cómic español Myrddin (2020), de Jorge García y Gustavo Rico, con el foco puesto en el uso del imaginario artúrico medieval a partir de su novedosa conexión con ingredientes como los alienígenas y las naves espaciales. En un primer apartado ofrecemos un sucinto panorama de la materia artúrica y su lazo con la cultura de masas, en especial con la ciencia ficción y la historieta. En segundo lugar, proponemos una lectura cercana de nuestro objeto para, en un tercer momento, detenernos en el trabajo de hibridación que confecciona Myrddin con las fuentes y los géneros con los que dialoga y de los que se nutre. Luego, observaremos cómo esto tiene consecuencias en el tratamiento de la temporalidad y del tándem magia-ciencia. Dado que tanto la ciencia ficción como las ficciones neomedievales operan como un modo de explorar de forma crítica el presente de producción, el objetivo del trabajo será observar cómo influye esta reescritura en las lecturas del mito artúrico y de qué manera eso se corresponde con el contexto de producción.

Within the framework of neomedieval studies, we propose to analyse the Spanish comic book Myrddin (2020), by Jorge García and Gustavo Rico, focusing on the use of the medieval Arthurian imagery through its novel connection with ingredients such as aliens and spaceships. In the first section we offer a brief overview of the Arthurian subject matter and its link with mass culture, especially with science fiction and comics. Secondly, we propose a close reading of our subject, followed by a third section that dwells on the work of hybridisation that Myrddin makes with the sources and genres with which it dialogues and from which he draws. Then, we will observe how this has consequences for the treatment of temporality and the magic-science tandem. Given that both science fiction and neomedieval fictions operate as a way of critically exploring the present of production, the aim of the paper will be to observe how this rewriting influences the readings of the Arthurian myth and how this corresponds to the context of production.
