El pasaje de la categoría travesti a mujer trans: Disputas de sentido en torno a la historia reciente argentina

Abstract

El siguiente artículo analiza los usos y connotaciones de las categorías travesti y mujer trans que las protagonistas le dan a la hora de autopercibirse y nombrarse ante el entorno social en Argentina. El trabajo propuesto parte de diferentes técnicas metodológicas de recolección de información: revisión de material gráfico y documental audiovisual donde se plasman los testimonios de diferentes activistas y referentes travestis y trans, como así también, transcripciones de entrevistas realizadas para una investigación etnográfica sobre las dinámicas amorosas de mujeres trans y travestis en la ciudad de Mar del Plata. El artículo propone pensar que existe un significativo cambio en las formas de autonombrarse, pero que ambas categorías ya nombradas coexisten y son usadas de manera estratégica para reivindicar luchas políticas y experiencias de vidas específicas.

The following article analyzes the uses and connotations of the categories travesti and mujer trans that the protagonists give when it comes to self-perceiving and naming themselves in the social environment in Argentina. The proposed work is based on different methodological techniques for collecting information: review of publications in graphic media and audiovisual documentary where the testimonies of different trans activists and references are reflected, as well as transcriptions of interviews carried out for an ethnographic investigation on the love dynamics of trans women and travestis in the city of Mar del Plata. The article proposes to think that there is a significant change in the ways of naming oneself, but that both categories already mentioned coexist and are used strategically to vindicate political struggles and specific life experiences.
