Resumen
This is the first record of Hyophyla involuta from the northwest of Argentina (NWA). It was previouslyrecorded from Misiones (Herzog 1952), more than 1300 km east from this new locality. The specieswas collected on soil in the Chaco Serrano forest mixed with Hydrogonium gregarium (Mitt.) Jan Kučera. The plants were found growing near other bryophytes including Pleurochaete luteola (Besch.)Thér., Pseudocrossidium arenicola (Dusén) M.J.Cano, Barbulastrum linearifolium (Müll.Hal.) M.J.Cano & J.A.Jiménez and Riccia mauryana Steph. The specimen is characterised by leaf cells that are bulging on the ventral surface, but plane to somewhat convex on the dorsal side, and with dentate ellipsoidal propagula present. A complete description and illustration of the species has been provided by Zander (1994).
