Human Occupations of Pampean Lakes Environments During the Holocene. Contributions from Bioanthropology and Bioarchaeology

Abstract

Pampean lakes have been the object of archaeological and, particularly, bioanthropological investigations since the middle twenty century. Issues such us subsistence strategies, mobility, chronology of occupations, technology and forms of burial, have been addressed bioanthropologically and bioarchaeologically. With broad chronologies, in some cases from the beginning of the Early-Middle Holocene, different intensity in the occupation pulses, and their own characteristics and some shared between the different areas, they can be thought of as territories that nucleated human interest and occupation throughout the Holocene. In this work, main contributions from bioanthropology and bioarchaeology are reviewed, for the entire region, focusing on the dynamics of human occupation of the southern coast of Mar Chiquita lagoon, in the province of Córdoba.
