La esclava, el ladrón y el príncipe mestizo: La reescritura de “Alí Babá y los cuarenta ladrones” en Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

Abstract

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (2009) de Shinobu Ōtaka es un manga que traspola las historias recopiladas en la clásica antología árabe Las mil y una noches a un mundo ficcional en el que todos sus personajes conviven e interactúan dentro de una nueva trama ideada por la mangaka. En el siguiente trabajo realizaremos un análisis comparativo entre los personajes correspondientes al relato “Alí Babá y los cuarenta ladrones” y las contrapartes modernas del manga de Ōtaka para ver en qué medida la autora leyó y recuperó elementos de la tradición árabe y cuáles fueron reinterpretados o reformulados.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (2009) by ShinobuŌtaka is a manga that transposes the stories collected in the classic Arabic anthology One thousand and one nights into a fictional world where all its characters coexist and interact within a new plot devised by the mangaka. In the following paper, we will conduct a comparative analysis between the characters from the tale “Ali Baba and the forty thieves” and their modern counterparts in Ōtaka's manga to examine to what extent the author read and incorporated elements of Arab tradition, and which aspects were reinterpreted or reformulated.
