Estrategias discursivas de un “hombre de gobierno”: Domingo Faustino Sarmiento y el incendio del Colegio del Salvador en 1875

Abstract

Estudio la intervención en la escena púbica de un “hombre de gobierno”, D. F. Sarmiento, en el debate en torno al hecho trágico, denominado “el incendio del Colegio del Salvador”, del 28 de febrero de 1875. A lo largo de su trayectoria, el sanjuanino combate a los jesuitas porque a su entender minan las autoridades constituidas y educan a los futuros dirigentes del país con valores e intereses que responden al Vaticano y no a la nación. Mi enfoque consiste en analizar las distintas estrategias discursivas que usa Sarmiento en diferentes momentos de su itinerario político en los que combate a los jesuitas. A título de hipótesis de trabajo planteo que Sarmiento debe cambiar la estrategia argumentativa al interpretar el “Incendio del Salvador” en 1875, diferente y opuesta a los años anteriores, con el fin de no colocar a la Orden en el lugar de las víctimas y defender a los jóvenes universitarios, laicos y antijesuitas, organizadores del meeting del cual se desprende la columna que ataca la sede educativa.

I study the intervention in the public scene of a “man of government”, D. F. Sarmiento, in the debate around the tragic event, called “the fire of the Colegio del Salvador”, on February 28, 1875. Throughout his career, the man from San Juan combats the Jesuits because in his opinion they undermine the constituted authorities and educate the future leaders of the county with values and interests that respond to the Vatican and not to the nation. My approach consists of analyzing the different discursive strategies that Sarmiento uses at different moments of his political itinerary where he fights the Jesuits. As a working hypothesis, I propose that Sarmiento should change his argumentative strategy when interpreting the “Fire of El Salvador” in 1875, different and opposite to the previous years, in order not to place the Order in the place of the victims and to defend the young university students, lay people and anti-Jesuits, organizers of the meeting from which the column that attached the educational headquarter emerged.
