Fan (1892) de W.H. Hudson: claves de lectura para una novela fracasada

Abstract

A partir de una lectura de Fan, the Story of a Young Girl’s Life (1892)que apunta a reponer un vacío de la crítica especializada, pretendemos extender líneas de indagación que exploren las razones del supuesto fracaso de la obra y del abandono de W.H. Hudson de ese formato de escritura (la folletinesca three-volume novel), las proyecciones identitarias hudsonianas en la obra, la representación literaria del espacio urbano y, finalmente, la relación del autor con las poéticas de George Gissing y Thomas Hardy, y sus reposiciones de la tradición del realismo dickensiano.

Based on a reading of Fan, the Story of a Young Girl's Life (1892) that aims to fill a gap in specialized criticism, we intend to explore lines of inquiry that examine the reasons for the supposed failure of the work and W.H. Hudson's abandonment of the three- volume novel format, the Hudsonian identity projections in the novel, the literary representation of urban space, and finally, the author's relationship with the poetics of George Gissing and Thomas Hardy and his repositioning of the tradition of Dickensian realism.
