Resumen

In this study, we performed two separate experiments to explore the effects of sugars (honey solution) and body size on longevity and reproductive capacity in Megarhyssa nortoni (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) under laboratory conditions. Both experiments were carried out in the context of Melisa Suans’ doctoral thesis. The data obtained and R codes used for data analysis are presented.

Métodos

In the first experiment, newly emerged males and females of M. nortoni were exposed separately to one of two diets until death: (1) water-only control and (2) honey-only treatment. After experiment, individuals were immediately frozen and their body size was measured. In the second experiment, newly emerged M. nortoni females were exposed to water-only control or honey-only treatment at different age cohorts: 0 (newly emerged), 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25-day. After experiment, individuals were immediately frozen and their body size was measured. Then, females were dissected and we counted the total number of ovarioles, mature, immature, and resorbing oocytes in both ovaries. Dissections, oocytes count and body size measures were made under a stereo microscope (Stemi 305, Zeiss) at 10-20X magnification.
