The assessment of functional movements is a crucial element in the evaluation of patients’ capacity to perform activities of daily living, particularly in those with neurological motor disorders that result in significant disabilities. Despite their widespread use, traditional clinical assessment tools are subject to a degree of subjectivity, depending on the professional administering the test. Quantitative measurements have undergone significant advancements in terms of standardization and monitoring the progression of functional disorders. These measurements facilitate a more precise evaluation of the efficacy of interventions and enable documentation of the current status, trajectory, and needs of patients. The development of objective, universally understood scales based on scientific principles facilitates the communication of clinical information and enhances the credibility of scientific research in the field of rehabilitation. Functional tests are fundamental to understanding motor control theories and their applications in neurological patients. These tests help identify degrees of freedom in movements, coordination patterns, and the efficiency of motor strategies employed by the central nervous system. While the visual perception of motor patterns may vary according to the experience of the evaluator, standardized tests allow for the approximation of functional deficits and their interpretation in the context of daily activities. Standardized, quantitative, and objective measurements are essential in neurorehabilitation, as they provide a comprehensive view of patients’ functional abilities and improvements. It is crucial that rehabilitation professionals and engineers collaborate to develop and implement these tools effectively, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.
