Vírgenes, madres y apóstoles de la moral: la Asociación de Mujeres de la Acción Católica Argentina durante las décadas de 1930 y 1940

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza el activismo y los discursos de la Asociación de Mujeres de la Acción Católica Argentina (AMAC) durante las décadas de 1930 y 1940. Una de las hipótesis de trabajo es que la institución se construyó a partir de matrices de género, de clase y de militante católica que funcionaron, sin embargo, con limitaciones e incluso acompañaron las transformaciones del período. Asimismo, se presta especial atención a la actividad de la institución en relación a las transformaciones de la cultura de masas. Se sostiene que la AMAC tuvo una actitud rígida y al mismo tiempo flexible en este campo, en el marco de los procesos de modernización de la cultura que desafiaron la actualidad del catolicismo y su potencial para interpelar a los fieles.

This article analyzes the activism and speeches of the Association of Women of Argentine Catholic Action (AMAC) during the 1930s and 1940s. One of the hypotheses of this work is that the institution was built from gender and class matrices, as well as of Catholic militant, which functioned, with limitations and even accompanied the transformations of the period. Likewise, special attention is paid to the activity of the institution in relation to the transformations of mass culture. It is argued that the AMAC had a rigid and at the same time flexible attitude in this field, within the framework of the processes of modernization of culture that challenged the current status of Catholicism and its potential to challenge the faithful.
