Analogía entre Mariano José de Larra y la Generación del ’37 Argentina: Análisis historiográfico de la interpretación elaborada por Osvaldo Álvarez Guerrero en Revista de Occidente

Abstract

Al momento de estudiar la Generación de 1837 en el Río de la Plata, una numerosa historiografía ha acentuado su aspecto receptor del romanticismo europeo, principalmente italiano y francés y la crítica elaborada por sus referencias hacia el pasado hispánico. En contraste con eso, en el número 50 de la Revista de Occidente, publicada en España en 1967, se observa un trabajo historiográfico realizado por el político argentino Osvaldo Álvarez Guerrero, quien aporta una nueva perspectiva. Sin negar tales influencias, compara a los miembros de esta generación con la figura del español Mariano José de Larra, a quien le adjudica la misma recepción y crítica hacia la monarquía española, que los rioplatenses. Asimilados incluso generacionalmente, el autor observa analogías en sus lógicas interpretativas, que se expresaría en la utilización del apodo de Figarillo, utilizado por Alberdi, en homenaje al de Figaro empleado por Lara. Tal cuestión ha sido generalmente omitida por los estudios al respecto, salvo breves menciones sobre la utilización de tal pseudónimo. Por todo ello, surge la relevancia por analizar en qué consistió el análisis de Álvarez Guerrero y cómo fundamentó tal relación. Dicho objeto de estudio se inscribe en el marco del proyecto de investigación sobre la circulación americana de la Revista de Occidente fundada por Ortega y Gasset, que por aquellos años conectaba tradiciones intelectuales y culturales entre ambos lados del Atlántico, por donde circulaba.

When studying the Generation of 1837 in the Río de la Plata, numerous historiographies has accentuated its receiving aspect of European romanticism, mainly Italian and French, and the criticism drawn up by its references to the Hispanic past. In contrast to that, in number 50 of the Revista de Occidente, published in Spain in 1967, there is a historiographical work carried out by the Argentine politician Osvaldo Álvarez Guerrero, who provides a new perspective. Without denying such influences, he compares the members of this generation with the figure of the Spanish Mariano José de Larra, to whom he attributes the same reception and criticism of the Spanish monarchy as the people of the River Plate. Assimilated even generationally, the author observes analogies in their interpretative logic, which would be expressed in the use of the nickname Figarillo, used by Alberdi, in homage to that of Figaro used by Lara. This issue has generally been omitted by studies on the matter, except for brief mentions about the use of such a pseudonym. For all this, the relevance arises to analyze what Álvarez Guerrero’s analysis consisted of and how he based such a relationship. This object of study is part of the framework of the research project on the American circulation of the Revista de Occidente founded by Ortega y Gasset, which in those years connected intellectual and cultural traditions between both sides of the Atlantic, where it circulated.
