Fronteras semióticas digitales y espaciales: Avances de investigación sobre mecanismos de segregación y circuitos de hostilización on y offline

Abstract

En la presente comunicación nos proponemos explorar la relación entre las brechas digitales y barreras espaciales que dentro y fuera de internet dividen el campo social. Más allá de la disponibilidad de equipos y servicios digitales, procuramos indagar la reproducción en el trivialmente denominado mundo virtual de los mecanismos de estigmatización, discriminación, desprecio y denegación en cuanto variantes de un circuito de hostilización que captura a sectores marginalizados o excluidos de la vida social offline. En particular, nos interesa identificar las diversas tipologías y funciones de murallas que separan el espacio urbano y acentúan la fragmentación territorial y la socio-segregación, al considerar que tales barreras guardan relaciones con disociaciones análogas en entornos digitales. Para ilustrar el paisaje esbozado retomamos ejemplos de una investigación incipiente sobre los imaginarios de la otredad en dos enclaves amurallados de la ciudad de San Luis, una urbanización cerrada y un barrio popular que expresan los extremos del acceso a la inclusión digital y al goce del derecho a la ciudad. Veremos, a fin de cuentas, que los límites entre el mundo digital y el mundo social fuera de línea exhiben esa porosidad y conductos de filtrado que entraña el concepto de frontera semiótica.

This paper explores the relationship between digital divides and spatial barriers that divide the social field both on and offline. Beyond the availability of digital equipment and services, we seek to investigate the reproduction in the so-called virtual world of mechanisms of stigmatization, discrimination, contempt, and denial as variants of a circuit of hostility that captures marginalized or excluded sectors of offline social life. In particular, we are interested in identifying the various typologies and functions of walls that separate urban space and accentuate territorial fragmentation and sociosegregation, considering that such barriers are related to analogous dissociations in digital environments. To illustrate the sketched landscape, we revisit examples from an incipient investigation into the imaginaries of otherness in two walled enclaves in the city of San Luis, a gated community and a popular neighborhood that express the extremes of access to digital inclusion and the enjoyment of the right to the city. We will see, in the end, that the boundaries between the digital world and the offline social world exhibit the porosity and filtering conduits that the concept of a semiotic border entails.
