¿Un fenómeno irradiado desde el carnaval porteño? Un inventario decomparsas africanizantes y de estética candombera en las provincias argentinas (1867-1940)

Abstract

Otros trabajos han demostrado que el carnaval de Buenos Aires fue escenario de intensas formas de circulación cultural inter-étnica entre afrodescendientes y blancos. La estética y la sonoridad “candombera”, utilizada en carnaval tanto por comparsas de afroporteños como por otras de blancos tiznados, tuvieron un fuerte impacto en el desarrollo de la sociabilidad porteña y de la cultura popular argentina. Este artículo apunta a demostrar que esa estética y esos intercambios conocieron réplicas tempranas en otras regiones de la Argentina. Para ello, se presenta aquí un inventario de las comparsas y agrupaciones carnavalescas integradas por personas de ancestría africana y/o por blancos que los imitaban que se presentaron en carnavales fuera de la ciudad de Buenos Aires entre 1867 y 1940, con información sobre sus performances, allí donde fue posible recabarla.

Other investigations have shown that the Buenos Aires carnival was the scene of intense forms of inter-ethnic cultural circulation between Afro-descendants and whites. The “candombero” aesthetics and sound, used in carnival by both Afro-Porteño and whites in blackface ensembles, had a strong impact on the development of lower-class sociability and of Argentine popular culture. This article aims to demonstrate that this aesthetics and those inter-ethnic exchanges knew early replicas in other regions of Argentina. In order to do it, an inventory of the carnival ensembles of people of African ancestry and/or whites who imitated them that appeared at carnivals outside the city of Buenos Aires between 1867 and 1940 is presented, with further information about their performances, wherever it was possible to obtain it.
