Las particularidades de la urbanización capitalista en América Latina: clase, etnia y ciudad

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es retomar y problematizar algunos de los rasgos fundamentales del proceso de urbanización de América Latina, explicitados por diversos autores latinoamericanos. Esto último se enmarca en investigaciones concretas desarrolladas en el periodo actual denominado “postneoliberal”. En general, los conceptos a desarrollar y con cuales se debatirán son los siguientes: la informalidad urbana y laboral; la segregación residencial; la cuestión de la autoconstrucción y la producción social del hábitat; y la llamada “isla de ruralidad”. Estos elementos se abordarán desde una perspectiva que permita comprender el espacio social en sus dos dimensiones: el hábitat (lo diseñado, lo instituido); y el “habitar” y la apropiación de la ciudad.

The aim of this work is to resume some of the fundamental features of urbanization in Latin America, spelled out by various Latin American authors. The latter is part of speciic research carried out in the current period called “post-neoliberal”. In general, the concepts to develop and which will be discussed are: urban and labor informality; residential segregation; the self and the social production of habitat; and the “island of rurality”. These elements will be addressed from a perspective for understanding the social space in its two dimensions: the habitat (as designed, the instituted); and the “dwell” and the appropriation of the city.
