dc.description.abstract
While scholarly interest in gender and/in translation is well established, there has been comparatively less focus on drama and theatre translation through the lens of gender. This special issue of Translation Studies aims at addressing this gap. Collectively, the articles explore how translation and the roles of other drama agents contribute to shaping theatrical meanings and practices, while drawing attention to their potential to raise gender awareness in the pursuit of equality and justice within and across languages, cultures and theatrical traditions. Studying the literary, social, historical, political, and performative dimensions of dramatic work in translation, the authors emphasize the interlaced relationship of transnational, intersectional and queer viewpoints with contemporary theatre practices and translation methods. Without losing its specificity, the research articles presented in this issue advance epistemic reflections that integrate key notions from feminist translation studies and queer studies into the study of drama and translation.
