Letter to the editor: A Southern Cone origin rather than Peruvian affinities for ancient Patagonian B2 mitogenomes

Abstract

We read with enthusiasm the recent paper by Arencibia, Muñoz, et al. (2023), in which the authors retrieved and analyzed two mitogenomesfrom ancient Patagonians, an endeavor accomplished entirely with allthe experimental and analytical procedures conducted in Argentina, asin their previous work (Arencibia, Muñoz Hidalgo, et al., 2023). However, we respectfully disagree with the results of their phylogeneticanalysis, as well as with their conclusions, concerning the geneticconnections with other South American regions.
