Frente al rumor del archivo: Milcíades Vignati, Liborio Justo y la cuestión indígena en Argentina

Abstract

Este trabajo forma parte de un proyecto más amplio que se propone comparar los puntos de convergencia y las diferencias en las concepciones del legado indígena y del mestizaje racial y cultural, presentes en las obras de figuras divergentes (provenientes de la antropología, del ensayo de interpretación nacional y de la literatura, del circuito culto tanto como del popular, y desde perspectivas políticas disidentes), en el período comprendido entre el primer peronismo y los inicios de la década del sesenta. En este contexto, este artículo explora dos interpretaciones divergentes respecto del mundo indígena, producidas en la Argentina del siglo XX: el análisis practicado por el antropólogo Milcíades Vignati, sobre un corpus de fotografías tomadas a sobrevivientes de la llamada Campaña al Desierto, y la lectura crítica de la misma Campaña, llevada a cabo por el historiador Liborio Justo, desde el marxismo. Nuestra perspectiva pone el foco en la hermenéutica opuesta que ambos autores despliegan sobre los archivos documentales, al exhumar las huellas de la violencia del Estado, palpable en los cuerpos, en las tomas fotográficas y en los textos del pasado.

This work is part of a larger project that seeks to compare the points of convergence and the differences in the conceptions of the indigenous legacy and of racial and cultural miscegenation, present in the works of divergent figures (coming from anthropology, from the national interpretation essay and from literature, from the cultured as well as the popular circuit; and from dissident political perspectives), in the period between the first Peronism and the beginning of the sixties. In this context, this articleexplores two divergent interpretations of the indigenous world that were produced in twentieth-century Argentina: the analysis carried out by the anthropologist Milcíades Vignati on a corpus of photographs taken of survivors of the so-called “Campaña al Desierto” (Desert Campaign), and the critical reading of the same “Campaña”, carried out by the historian Liborio Justo, from a Marxist perspective. Our perspective focuses on the opposing hermeneutics that both authors deploy on the documentary archives, exhuming the traces of state violence, which can be perceived in the bodies, in the photographs and in the texts of the past.
