La Estacionalidad hídrica y el transporte terrestre: Flujos del agua y sistema de comunicaciones en el oeste de Córdoba (1850-1930)

Abstract

Entre los siglos XVI al XVIII valles y llanuras al oeste de las Sierras Centrales en Argentina oscilaron entre sus relaciones con Cuyo y la atracción de la ciudad de Córdoba. La cadena montañosa y sus numerosos ríos fueron un obstáculo orográfico significativo y colaboraron en dar una identidad distintiva a aquellas comunidades. En este estudio exploramos desde una perspectiva histórico ambiental cómo esta configuración establecida fue trastocada a fines del siglo XIX, en el marco de la consolidación estatal y reorientación atlántica de la economía argentina. Así, analizamos de qué forma las dinámicas preexistentes de relación con el agua y las escorrentías serranas fueron un límite entre los valles serranos y la pujante economía agroganadera pampeana. Se utilizaron fuentes historiográficas tradicionales -informes, relatos, periódicos, entre otros – junto a cartografía histórica y software SIG. Este último, permitió echar nueva luz sobre algunos elementos previamente ignorados en torno al sistema hidrosocial y de transporte en la provincia mediterránea.

Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the valleys, and plains to the west of the Sierras Centrales in Argentina oscillated between their relations with Cuyo and the attraction of the city of Córdoba. The mountain range and its many rivers were a significant orographic obstacle and helped to give these communities a distinctive identity. In this study, we explore from a historical environmental perspective how this established configuration was disrupted at the end of the 19th century, within the framework of state consolidation and the Atlantic reorientation of the Argentine economy. Thus, we analyze how the pre-existing dynamics and relationship with water and mountain runoff were a limit between the mountain valleys and the thriving agro-livestock economy of the Pampas. Traditional historiographic sources were used -reports, stories, newspapers, among others- together with historical cartography and GIS software. The latter, allowed to shed new light on some previously ignored elements around the hidrosocial and transportation system of that landlocked province.
