Paleoenvironmental, paleontological, magmatic and tectonic evolution of the Mio-Pleistocene Andean Basins in Southern South America

Abstract

The Andean Mio-Pleistocene basins located south of 21° S offer a unique opportunity to study the effect of the uplift of one of the highest mountain ranges of our planet on aspects as varied as the sedimentary paleoenvironments, magmatism, paleontological record, tectonics, and climate. The purpose of this special issue is to show the recent advances in the understanding of the evolution of these basins and to update the recently proposed schemes for each of the different lines of research.
