Por la vida de los jóvenes: Los papas frente al “problema de las drogas”

Abstract

El objetivo del trabajo es analizar el posicionamiento de los últimos trespontífices sobre el “problema de las drogas”. Con base en la utilización de unametodología mixta que combina la minería de texto y análisis cualitativo sobreuna novedosa base de datos que se extiende desde 1978 hasta 2021, se exploranlas alocuciones de Juan Pablo II, Benedicto XVI y Francisco disponibles enespañol para identificar los rasgos más salientes de sus expresiones públicasacerca de tal asunto. Los resultados de una examinación cuantitativa inicialsobre 375 alocuciones llevan a profundizar cualitativamente sobre lacentralidad de las nociones de “jóvenes” y “vida” en estos discursos papales. Elanálisis ofrece un primer acercamiento a las causas, población afectada,problemáticas asociadas y posibles soluciones que los papas imaginan sobredicho “problema”

This paper seeks to analyze the position of the last three popes on the "drugproblem". Based on the use of a mixed methodology that combines text miningand qualitative analysis over a novel database that extends from 1978 to 2021,this paper explores the speeches of John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis available in Spanish with the aim of identifying the most salient features oftheir public expressions on this issue. The results of an initial quantitativeexamination of 375 speeches lead to a qualitative analysis focused on thenotions of "young people" and "life" in these pontifical discourses. The analysisoffers a first insight into the causes, affected population, associated problems,and possible solutions that the popes envision for this "problem".
