El régimen representativo del arte en el cine: una aproximación a la eficacia política del cine

Abstract

El amplio espectro de géneros cinematográficos bien pueden ser reducidos a dos grandes formas discursivas que, en principio, se vislumbran como lógicas estéticas opuestas: el cine de ficción y el cine documental. En este sentido, la diferencia entre ambos géneros es equivalente a la diferencia entre realidad y ficción. Ahora bien: ¿Es dicha diferencia una distinción válida? La respuesta, que es, en efecto, la hipótesis central del presente trabajo, es negativa. Ahora bien: ¿Nos dice algo esta distinción entre realidad / ficción, cine documental / cine de ficción sobre el cine como producción artística? O, mejor aún: ¿nos dice ella algo sobre el cine y su eficacia política como expresión artística? El propósito del presente trabajo es responder ambos interrogantes.

The broad range of film genres could very well be reduced to two main, aesthetically antithetical, discursive options: feature films and documentaries. In a sense, these genres mirror reality and fiction. Yet, is this distinction valid? The answer, and the main hypothesis of this work, is that it is not. Finally, does the difference between fiction and reality, documentary and feature films tell us something about cinema as an artistic expression? Or, better yet, does it say something about cinema and its political efficacy as artistic expression? These are the questions raised in this paper.
