“Los propósitos de Caseros no se han cumplido plenamente”: Prensa y política, una aproximación a El Argentino de José Hernández

Abstract

Durante el año 1863, cuando todavía se viven las consecuencias no del todosaldadas de la batalla de Pavón, la celebración de Caseros es la ocasión y la oportunidadpara posicionarse políticamente sobre ese pasado reciente. Este articulo analiza lapercepción que tiene al respecto El Argentino, periódico editado durante ese año enParaná por el poeta José Hernández. En el marco del plan de “unificación de la nación”impulsado por el presidente Bartolomé Mitre, se trata de hacer ver como dichaconmemoración sirve para discutir las políticas del gobierno nacional (entre otras, laidea de fusión de partidos, la distribución de las rentas nacionales, las intervenciones enlas provincias) y, al mismo tiempo, el lugar que le asignan en el acontecimiento tanto aUrquiza como a Mitre.

During the year 1863, when the consequences of the Battle of Pavón were not yet resolved and are still being experienced, the celebration of Caseros is the occasion and the opportunity to position oneself politically on that recent past. This article analyzes the perception that El Argentino, a newspaper edited during that year in Paraná by the poet José Hernández, has in this regard. Within the framework of the “unification of the nation” plan promoted by President Bartolomé Mitre, the aim is to show how this commemoration serves to discuss the policies of the national government (among others, the idea of fusion of parties, the distribution of national income, the interventions in the provinces) and, at the same time, the place assigned in the event to both Urquiza and Mitre.
