The Balance of an "Old Poet who Writes": Networks around Poetry and Art in Juana Bignozzi's Last Book of Poems

Abstract

The Women Poets Visit Andrea del Sarto (2014) is the last published book by Juana Bignozzi (Buenos Aires, 1937-2015). In this polyphonic text, mainly structured as a dialogue between a contemporary voice and the Renaissance painter, the Argentine poet draws a parallel between 16th century Florence and the years of her youth in the Buenos Aires of the sixties. Without yielding to nostalgia and focusing on the generational and intergenerational networks that surround creative processes, Bignozzi places herself in a position where she "watches young people write" (34). The examination of family ties, political commitment, friendships and hardships experiences such as exile eventually leads to a reflection on the "work" (47) and the "mission" (53) of the poet/artist in society.

Las poetas visitan a Andrea del Sarto (2014) es el último libro publicado de Juana Bignozzi (Buenos Aires, 1937-2015). En este texto polifónico, mayormente estructurado como un diálogo entre una voz contemporánea y el pintor renacentista, la poeta argentina traza un paralelo entre la Florencia del siglo XVI y su juventud en la Buenos Aires de los años sesenta. Sin ceder a la nostalgia y poniendo el foco en las redes generacionales e intergeneracionales que rodean los procesos creativos, Bignozzi se sitúa en un lugar desde donde "mira escribir a los jóvenes" (34). De ese modo, el repaso de los lazos familiares, el compromiso político, los lazos de amistad y las experiencias duras como el exilio desemboca en una reflexión sobre el "trabajo" (47) y la "misión" (53) del poeta/artista en la sociedad.
