Revisita a la cuestión del liberalismo lockeano: La articulación teológico-política y económica entre estado de naturaleza, propiedad, ciudadanía y resistencia

Abstract

Este artículo estudia la atribución de liberalismo a la obra de John Locke. En primer lugar, se presentan dos grandes líneas interpretativas: i) la que, con base en la periodización histórica, identifica la concepción liberal con su apogeo en el siglo XIX (y en menor medida XX) y por tanto niega que pueda atribuirse a Locke; ii) la que, a partir de una definición conceptual de liberalismo, la considera plasmada en el corpus lockeano. En segundo lugar, se presenta la posición del autor, la cual se inscribe en esta segunda línea en base a la articulación teológico-política y económica entre las nociones de estado de naturaleza, propiedad privada, ciudadanía y resistencia.

This article revisits the ascription of Liberalism to the work of John Locke. First, two major interpretative perspectives are presented: i) One, on the basis of historical periodization, identifies the liberal conception with its apogee during the 19th century (and to a lesser extent the 20th) and accordingly denies it to Locke; ii) The other, on the basis of a conceptual definition of liberalism, considers the latter to be embodied in the Lockean corpus. Second, the author’s own position is presented, which locates itself within this second perspective, based on the articulation between the notions of the state of nature, private property, citizenship and resistance.
