Monumentos Históricos Nacionales: Valoraciones atribuidas y conformación del canon colonial argentino (1938-1946)

Abstract

La noción de patrimonio cultural y los criterios de selección y valoración que lo legitiman difieren conforme al contexto histórico cultural en el cual se inscriben. El presente trabajo analiza la noción de monumento histórico, los valores asociados este yel corpus patrimonial resultante durante la etapa fundacional de la Comisión Nacional de Museos, Monumentos y Lugares Históricos en Argentina (1938-1946). Desde fines del siglo XIX, el patrimonio cultural fue utilizado para “argentinizar” a una sociedad culturalmente heterogénea. Sin embargo, la problematización de patrimonio arquitectónico recién tuvo lugar a fines de la década de 1930, cuando la disciplina histórica creó una estructura técnico-administrativa para su gestión. A partir de entonces la arquitectura histórica, con relevante predominio del período colonial, se convirtió en uno de los principales dispositivos culturales para la construcción de la identidad nacional.

The notion of cultural heritage and the selection and assessment criteria that legitimize it change according to the historical and cultural context in which they are part. The present work analyzes the notion of historical monument, the values associated with it and the resulting heritage corpus during the founding stage of the National Commission of Museums, Monuments and Historical Places in Argentina (1938-1946). Since the end of the 19th century, cultural heritage was used to “argentinize” a culturally heterogeneous society. However, the problematization of architectural heritage first took place at the end of the 1930s, when the historical discipline created a technical and administrative structure for its management. From then on, historical architecture, with a significant predominance of the colonial period, became one of the main cultural devices for the construction of national identity.
