Investigaciones arqueológicas en la margen norte del valle inferior del río Negro (provincia de Buenos Aires): Sitio el Churlaquín

Abstract

El curso inferior del río Negro ha sido el escenario de exploraciones e investigaciones arqueológicas desde fines del siglo XIX, principalmente en la margen sur. Por el contrario, en la orilla norte (partido de Patagones, provincia de Buenos Aires) no se han llevado a cabo investigaciones arqueológicas. Recientemente se comenzó a prospectar sistemáticamente este sector junto a la costa Atlántica adyacente. Aquí se presentan los resultados preliminares del sitio El Churlaquín relacionados a geoarqueología, cronología, tecnología lítica y cerámica, subsistencia y tafonomía. Se trata de una base residencial de actividades múltiples redundantemente ocupada entre ca. 3700-1500 años AP (última parte del Holoceno medio y Holoceno tardío inicial). Se establecieron comparaciones con sitios estudiados en el curso medio de la cuenca con los cuales presenta una gran similitud. Como ha sido propuesto para este sector, en el área de estudio también se habría producido un uso sostenido de ambientes acuáticos.

Since the end of the 19th century the lower course of the Negro River was the subject of archaeological explorations and research, mainly on the southern bank. Conversely, on the northern shore (Patagones district, Buenos Aires province) no archaeological investigations have been carried out. Recent systematic archaeological surveys along this shore and the adjacent Atlantic coast were carried out. Here we present the preliminary results of the El Churlaquín site. Issues related to geoarchaeology, chronology, lithic and pottery technology, subsistence and taphonomy are discussed. The site corresponds to a residential base redundantly occupied between ca. 3700- 1500 years BP (last part of the middle Holocene and initial late Holocene). The archaeological record shows similarities with sites of the middle course of the Río Negro. Finally, as proposed for the middle sector of the basin, the evidence recovered from El Churlaquín allows us to hypothesize a sustained use of the aquatic environments.
