Pactos y etnografías: reflexiones teórico-metodológicas acerca de iniciar una investigación intra-cementerio

Abstract

Este artículo aporta una reflexión teórico-metodológica sobre la experiencia de realizar trabajo de campo de corte etnográfico en instituciones estatales. Durante el año 2022 me encontré comenzando mi investigación doctoral relacionada a trayectos post-mortuorios de un cuerpo sin identidad en tres cementerios del país: Cementerio de la Chacarita, Ciudad de Buenos Aires; Cementerio de Morón, provincia de Buenos Aires y Cementerio de San Vicente, Córdoba Capital. Si bien entendía las dificultades de acceder a diferentes instituciones pertenecientes al campo de lo estatal, lejos estaba de pensar las trabas y complejidades administrativas a las que me enfrentaría. Este ir y venir de documentos, permisos, llamados telefónicos y negativas me hicieron pensar sobre la conformación del “campo” y el “pacto etnográfico” en mi práctica. Estas indagaciones aún en proceso de construcción recuperan, por un lado, la importancia de generar un acuerdo entre el investigador y el objeto de estudio. Y, por otro, la necesidad de comprender las lógicas burocráticas antes de iniciar cualquier trayecto de investigación relacionado a instituciones estatales.

The following research proposes a theoretical-methodological reflection on initiating ethnographic research in three cemeteries in Argentina and conducting fieldwork specifically within the framework of government institutions that these sites depend on. In 2022, I began my doctoral research on postmortem trajectories of bodies with no identity in three cemeteries: Chacarita Cemetery, in Buenos Aires, Morón Cemetery, in the Province of Buenos Aires, and San Vicente Cemetery, in Córdoba. Although I understood the difficulties of accessing different state institutions, I wasn’t aware of the administrative obstacles and complexities I would face. The back and forth of documents, permits, phone calls, and refusals made me reflect on the conformation of the ‘field’ and the ‘ethnographic pact’ in my practice. These questions, which are still being developed, on the one hand, recover the importance of generating an agreement between the researcher and the object of study. On the other hand, demonstrates the need to understand bureaucratic logic before embarking on any research path related to state-related institutions.
