Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are related but their mechanistic links are unknown. To explore this, Pedrosa et al. have performed an interesting and exhaustive study to reveal whether AT1 receptor autoantibodies (AT1-AA, with agonistic effect on AT1 receptors) and angiotensin converting enzyme 2 autoantibodies (ACE2-AA, antagonists on ACE2) are increased in MetS, and whether these autoantibodies may mediate a possible enhancing effect of MetS on dopaminergic cell death and PD (Pedrosa et al., 2023)...
