Malas mujeres en Leoncio de Neápolis

Abstract

La mujer ocupa una posición modesta pero relevante en la obra hagiográfica de Leoncio de Neápolis (s. VII). La presente contribución describe seis tipos de figuras femeninas presentadas negativamente en dicho corpus. Tras una breve introducción (§ 1), se detiene con algún detalle en el primer tipo, a saber, el de la mujer lasciva (§ 2), analizando más someramente los otros cinco, constituidos, respectivamente, por la prostituta (§ 3.a), la fornicadora (§ 3.b), la adúltera (§ 3.c), la adivina (§ 3.d), la herética (§ 3.e). Sigue una breve conclusión sobre la figura de la pecadora - esencial para definir la de la mujer a secas - en la hagiografía de Leoncio (§ 4)

Women play a modest but relevant role in Leontius of Neapolis’ (7th c.) hagiographical works. In this contribution, I will describe six types of female characters portrayed derisively there. After a short introduction (§ 1), I will tackle with some detail the first type, namely, that of the lewd woman (§ 2), analysing more briefly the other five: the prostitute (§ 3a), the fornicator (§ 3b), the adulteress (§ 3c), the fortune teller (§ 3d), the heretic (§ 3e). A short conclusion about the sinner woman – crucial for defining the role of women in Leontius – follows (§ 4).
