Reflejos de vanguardia: la guerra al nervio óptico entre Macedonio Fernández y Jorge Luis Borges

Abstract

La figura excéntrica de Macedonio Fernández ha llamado la atención por lasafinidades de su estética “asensorial” o Belarte con la propuesta “antirretiniana” y la“belleza de indiferencia” de Marcel Duchamp. A partir de este vínculo transatlántico entredos vanguardias que por muy poco no se cruzaron, analizaremos algunas constantes de lapoética de Borges, en particular su relación con metáforas obsesivas como los espejos y sucorolario, la simetría. Para ello tomaremos como base el ensayo de Martin Jay DowncastEyes, a fin de establecer un paralelo entre la tradición francesa “antiocular” y el contextoargentino de la primera mitad del siglo XX.

The eccentric figure of Macedonio Fernández has drawn attention due to the affinities of his “asensorial” or Belarte aesthetic with the “anti-retinal” proposal and the “beauty of indifference” of Marcel Duchamp. Starting from this transatlantic link between two avantgardes that almost did not cross, we will analyze some constants in Borges’s poetics, in particular his relationship with obsessive metaphors such as mirrors and their corollary, symmetry. For this we will start witrh the essay by Martin Jay Downcast Eyes, in order to establish a parallel between the French “anti-ocular” tradition and the Argentine context of the first half of the 20th century.
