Políticas de la forma: Las Escuelas Nacionales de Arte de La Habana, entre la arquitectura, la literatura y el posmodernismo

Abstract

El artículo toma el caso de las Escuelas Nacionales de Arte de La Habana para indagar las tensiones entre estética y política en los inicios de la Revolución Cubana. Poniendo el foco en la disputa por el control de las formas dentro del comunismo, analiza el libro de John A. Loomis, Revolution of Forms. Cuba’s forgotten art schools (1999), que asumió la tarea de rescatar dichas Escuelas del olvido y situarlas en la historia de la arquitectura. El artículo pone el foco en la construcción de un punto de vista intelectual propio de finales del siglo XX, de carácter retrospectivo, crítico y arqueológico. Indaga desde esta óptica la reescritura de Antonio José Ponte del caso de las Escuelas, e indaga los lazos entre la historia de las Escuelas y la conformación del discurso posmodernista en la arquitectura y la filosofía.

The article takes the case of the National Art Schools of Havana to investigate the tensions between aesthetics and politics in the early days of the Cuban Revolution. Focusing on the dispute over the control of forms within communism, it analyses John A. Loomis's book Revolution of Forms. Cuba's forgotten art schools (1999), which undertook the task of rescuing those schools from oblivion and situating them within the history of architecture. This article focuses on the construction of an intellectual point of view typical of the late 20th century —retrospective, critical and archaeological in nature. From this perspective, it examines Antonio José Ponte's rewriting of the case of the Schools, and explores the links between their history and the shaping of postmodernist discourse in architecture and philosophy.
