Pasajeros y mercancías: Debates y proyectos en torno a la apertura al río y el desarrollo de la Estación Fluvial en la costa central de Rosario (1930-1960)

Abstract

El presente trabajo se focaliza en el estudio de las representaciones visuales y textuales, así como en las intervenciones materiales, que fueron paulatinamente modificando la imagen del borde costero central que se encontraba ocupado por las instalaciones ferro-portuarias, en el período 1930-1960. En tal sentido, se analizan los discursos de la prensa periódica rosarina entendidos como agente activo en la construcción de dichas significaciones imaginarias, tanto en sus estrategias argumentativas como en el uso de los recursos visuales puestos en relación con representaciones provenientes de otros campos tales como el urbanismo, las cartografías de los organismos competentes en el sector, las fotografías y postales, entre otras. Se estudia particularmente la construcción de una Estación Fluvial de pasajeros, sobre la cual en la década del ‘30 se presentan diversos proyectos. No obstante, su materialización llegará recién a inicios de los ‘50 articulada con otras intervenciones que habilitarán nuevas construcciones discursivas que apostarán a la reactivación de las actividades portuarias en franco retroceso, al tiempo que comienzan a aparecer consideraciones para el desarrollo del turismo mediante embarcaciones de pasajeros, renovando antiguas discusiones que enfrentaban la concepción estrictamente productiva del Paraná con la mirada sensible del paisaje del río y las islas.

This paper focuses on the study of the visual and textual representations, as well as on the material interventions, which gradually modified the image of the central coastline occupied by the railway-port facilities in the period 1930-1960. In this sense, we analyse the discourses of the Rosario newspaper as an active agent in the construction of these imaginary meanings, both in its argumentative strategies and in the use of visual resources in relation to representations from other fields such as urban planning, the cartographies of the competent bodies in the sector, photographs and postcards, among others. In particular, the construction of a passenger river station is studied, for which various projects were presented in the 1930s. However, it was not until the beginning of the 1950s that it materialized, articulated with other interventions that enabled new discursive constructions that were aimed at reactivating port activities in decline, while at the same time considerations began to appear for the development of tourism by passenger boats, renewing old discussions that confronted the strictly productive conception of the Paraná with the sensitive view of the landscape of the river and the islands.
