Cities are increasingly susceptible to floods and flooding in the current context of climate change. Increasing their knowledge contributes to strengthen the capacity to manage such events in order to reduce the adverse effects. The aim of this paper is to analyze the impacts of precipitation in the intermediate city of Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires, Argentina). For this goal, journalistic sources in printed and digital format, pluviometric data from the National Meteorological Service and the Standarized Precipitation Index (SPEI) for the period between 1990 and 2023 are analyzed. The results indicate that the main impacts are flooding and the disruption of services. It is concluded that rainfall does not necessarily have to be extreme to cause negative impacts on urban areas. In fact, during the occurrence of dry cycles, clearly identified through the SPEI, significant events have been identified in terms of amount of rainfall and the requirement of local management efforts.
