Migrantes senegaleses en la prensa argentina: Un análisis de artículos publicados en Página|12 y Clarín entre 2001 y 2022

Abstract

En el presente trabajo nos proponemos analizar las representaciones sociales construidas sobre migrantes de origen senegalés en dos de los principales medios de comunicación gráficos de tirada nacional en Argentina, recurriendo a herramientas del análisis del discurso. Para tal fin, hemos recuperado las noticias que hicieron referencia a esta población migrante, a través de los repositorios online de Clarín y Página 12, entre 2001 y 2022, período que coincide también con su estadía en el país. Se trata de un corpus de 91 artículos en total, los cuales, tras ser grillados, fueron analizados con el programa Atlas ti. En esta oportunidad hemos seleccionado estudiar cuál es la representación que la nota en su conjunto tiene respecto de la población de origen senegalés, identificando el modo en que son construidos discursivamente a través de la nominación.El análisis efectuado nos permitió identificar cuatro grandes temáticas: venta ambulante, nuevas migraciones africanas, discriminación y espectáculos. Los principales hallazgos se centran en el análisis de las representaciones que los medios producen respecto de esta población y, en particular, su vinculación a la venta ambulante.Estas representaciones varían en relación al medio gráfico, aunque en la mayoría de los casos se los representa de manera criminalizante, exotizante o victimizante, considerando su inserción en la sociedad receptora como problemática.

In this paper we propose to analyze the social representations constructed about Senegalese migrants in two of in two of the main Argentinean’s print media outlets, from discourse analysis perspective. With this objective, we examine news articles that referred to this migrant population using the online archives of Clarín and Página|12, between 2001 and 2022, a period that also coincides with their stay in the country. The corpus consists of 91 articles in total, which, after being gridded, were analysed using Atlas.ti software. For this study we focused on the overall representations of the Senegalese population traceable from the ways in which they are discursively constructed through the use of naming and categorisations. The analysis allowed us to identify four major themes: street vending, new African migrations, discrimination and entertainment. The main findings are centered on the analysis of the representations produced by the media in particular in relation to street vending. Such representantions vary depending on the media outlet, showing different social representations of these migrants, but in most cases Senegalese migrants are portrayed in criminalizing, exoticizing or victimizing ways thus in this way, media problematises their insertion into the host society.
