Tunpare yaicó huyerovia ñamano ("juremos con gloria morir"): Las traducciones del himno nacional argentino entre los guaraní hablantes de Salta

Abstract

A lo largo de nueve décadas, diferentes comunidades guaraní hablantes de la provincia de Salta han practicado sus propias versiones del himno nacional argentino. Partiendo de información recopilada en trabajos de campo, así como de datos obtenidos en documentos escritos, sonoros y audiovisuales, se describe y analiza, desde una perspectiva etnográfica e histórica, el proceso de creación y puesta en práctica de estas traducciones. Para ello, se comparan las diferentes versiones relevadas hasta el momento, buscando conocer los contextos sociohistóricos en los cuales surgieron, los actores involucrados, y las motivaciones que tuvieron los guaraníes para emprender la tarea. Se indaga, además, en las formas novedosas que encontraron para resolver las traducciones, los aspectos semánticos y simbólicos asociados al proceso y los recuerdos vinculados con su práctica. Sostenemos que el símbolo patrio, al ser intervenido y traducido al guaraní, adquiere nuevas capas de sentido que se adhieren al original y permiten recalcar la diferencia étnica. Las versiones, asimismo, configuran un campo móvil y disputado; se trata de un producto cultural que no pasa desapercibido al que los guaraníes supieron recurrir en diferentes momentos históricos como un recurso útil para ser desplegado en el ámbito intercultural.

Over the course of nine decades, different Guaraní-speaking communities in the province of Salta have performed their own versions of the Argentine national anthem. Based on information gathered in fieldwork, as well as data obtained from written, audio, and audiovisual documents, the process of creation and implementation of these translations is described and analysed from an ethnographic and historical perspective. To this end, we compare the different versions that have been collected to date, seeking to understand the socio-historical contexts in which they emerged, the actors involved, and the motivations that the Guaraní had for undertaking the task. We also investigate the novel ways they found to solve the translations, the semantic and symbolic aspects associated with the process and the memories linked to their practice. We argue that the patriotic symbol, when translated into Guaraní, acquires new layers of meaning that adhere to the original and allow the ethnic difference to be emphasised. The versions, likewise, configure a mobile and disputed field; it is a cultural product that does not go unnoticed and to which the Guaraní were able to resort at different historical moments as a useful resource to be deployed in the intercultural sphere.
