El abordaje interdisciplinario mejora el diagnóstico de las infecciones de transmisión sexual

Abstract

The National Program for Human Retroviruses, AIDS and STDs was implemented in the Arturo U. Illia Hospital in 2009. Using the information available in the pharmacy service on patients with syndromic treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), in 2011 a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to learn about the situation of the Program records, analyze interventions carried out from the service and contribute to the knowledge of epidemiological trends. STI training activities were implemented during the second half of 2011, and a significant increase in the number of cases was observed at the end of that year. Pregnant women with syphilis and patients hospitalized for other causes were registered in the Program. The diagnosis of trichomoniasis increased significantly, with a higher proportion of women, while syphilis cases remained unchanged. The 21-50 age group was predominant. Although most were residents of Alta Gracia, patients from the area of influence of the Hospital increased in the second half. Moreover, there was an increase in the number of treatments of sexual partners and high compliance in treatment regimens. In addition, consumption of condoms supplied by the program increased two and half times over the previous semester. The excellent disposition of the professionals involved led to improved registration and the inclusion of patients in the Program, optimizing the use of resources. This helps reduce the transmission of STIs and their potential complications, it contributes to the effectiveness of treatments and knowledge of epidemiological trends, providing guidance for the implementation of new prevention efforts.

El Programa Nacional de Lucha contra los Retrovirus del Humano, Sida y ETS se implementó en el Hospital Arturo U. Illia en 2009. Con la información disponible en el Servicio de Farmacia sobre pacientes con tratamiento sindrómico para infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS), durante 2011 se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal para conocer la situación de los registros en el Programa, analizar intervenciones realizadas desde el servicio y contribuir al conocimiento de tendencias epidemiológicas locales. Las actividades de capacitación sobre ITS implementadas en la segunda mitad de 2011 en diversos ámbitos condujeron a un significativo incremento del número de casos al finalizar el año, con la inclusión en los registros del Programa de embarazadas con sífilis y pacientes internados por otras causas. Se observó un aumento de los casos de tricomoniasis, con una mayor proporción de mujeres, mientras que los de sífilis no se modificaron. La franja etaria de 21 a 50 años fue la predominante. La mayoría de los casos corresponden a Alta Gracia, aunque aumentaron aquellos en el área de influencia del hospital. En ese período se incrementó el número de tratamientos con la pareja sexual, hubo un elevado cumplimiento de las terapéuticas impartidas y se incrementó más de 2.5 veces el consumo de preservativos del Programa. La buena predisposición de los profesionales que intervinieron condujo a mejorar los registros y la inclusión de pacientes en el Programa, optimizando así el uso de los recursos. Esto ayuda a reducir la transmisión de las ITS y sus potenciales complicaciones, contribuye a la eficacia de los tratamientos y el conocimiento de tendencias epidemiológicas que, en definitiva, proporciona una guía para la implementación de nuevas acciones preventivas.
